Behind the Scenes at the Halo 3 Annoucement
Sketch and Frankie of Bungie have posted a bit about the setup behind their E3 announcement of Halo 3. The entire trailer ran in real time (it was rendered as it played) and they needed to ensure everything was setup correctly for this – the debug kits were tested, the audio and video cables were all checked and rechecked and they ensured the trailer ran correctly by playing it a total of 6 times before the actual announcement, along with a backup 360 debug kit hooked up to the first so if the first did crash it would transfer over to the second box seamlessly (in theory) – which fortunately didn’t happen.
For the most part everything ran smoothly, but there were a few hitches including one of the Bungie staff wearing his Halo 3 shirt out in the view of reporters before the game was officially announced, and the Halo 3 announcement trailer appearing on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace before the game announcement since the conference was running late.
There was a lot more to the 2 minute trailer than most may have thought. You can read the whole story below.
