Best Buy: No more PS3s? Get Xbox 360 bundle instead
This is a Best Buy deal that we suspect some Sony and Microsoft fanboys will frown upon. You have been warned.
PunchJump reports that come Launch Day, Best Buy stores have plans for disappointed customers unable to snap up one of the Best Buy allotment out of the 400,000 launch PS3 units Sony’s made available for North America. They will offer an Xbox 360 bundle. Says PunchJump,
According to a Best Buy’s retail protocol for selling the PS3, customers who waited in line but didnÂ’t get a PS3 will be offered a launch day deal of an Xbox 360 Premium System and two game titles, with a third title at no cost. The offer is said to be valid from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19.
Like we said, we suspect some fanboys are going to be displeased at this deal. One side wouldn’t want the 360 to be seen as some sort of “consolation prize” to the PS3. Some on the other side may break out ranting about the nerve of offering Microsoft’s system to Sony customers. More reasonable minds on both sides will just realize one or more of the following:
- This is only to satisfy the impatient who either (a) just have to get any game system in time for the holidays, or (b) just want something for their trouble of lining up and waiting for God knows how many hours only to go home empty-handed.
- Sony said they’ve ramped up PS3 production to make for the shortfall, anyway, so it’s only a matter of a couple of months more of waiting for those who CAN wait.
- You don’t have to accept the deal or make a scene about it anyway.
Temptation apparently waits after PS3 #400,000.
