Bill Roper: Hellgate London is spiritual successor to Diablo II

Hellgate: London - Diablo II

Eurogamer reports that during the CES, Flagship Studios head, Bill Roper (someone who was once heavily involved with Diablo) has said that their upcoming MMO Hellgate: London, is intended to attract and satisfy Diablo players, even going as far as to state that the game is a continuation or progression of Diablo II‘s gameplay.

Roper said:

We feel that Hellgate: London is the spiritual successor to Diablo II. …Really the biggest thing for us is wanting to reach out to the Diablo players. I think that people that play MMOs – whether it’s EverQuest, or WoW, or Asheron’s Call, or whatever it is, they’re really going to find something they like about the game… But I do think it’s really important for us is to make sure we reach out to those millions of Diablo players, that really love the Diablo gameplay mechanic, that were really excited about Diablo and want to have that kind of gameplay experience again.

Let’s see, in Hellgate: London, demons have invaded Britain, so we guess that the futuristic-Diablo comparison is pretty much accurate.

The interesting thing here is that rumors of a Diablo IIIis still persisting. Is it possible that the third Diablo will feel like Hellgate: London? Curious.
