Bizarre devs talks about the “boom” in Boom Boom Rocket

While Boom Boom Rocket for the Xbox 360 is admittedly another rhythm action game – we’ve seen plenty of those – we can easily say that its defining points are its beautiful (nary seizure inducing) fireworks, and cityscape. Now, in case you were too busy playing to pay attention to these visuals, Bizarre Creations updated their main site with some interesting insight into this Xbox Live Arcade game’s creation. The first segment of their latest commentary discusses the nine types of regular fireworks. Here are some of the more interesting excerpts:

The peony is your traditional spherical firework. When you think “big badda boom”, you think peony. The explosion itself is caused by a large number of particles firing outward from the centre in a single explosion. Peonys really form the backbone of BBR‘s regular firework explosions… they’re simple and effective, and are used in most songs. The peonys come in both big and fast variants, meaning that they can be scripted to fit most sections of music.

Comets are usually fast to reach the point of explosion, and when they do they shoot outward in a medium size irregular pattern. The colours fade between various different shades; in the above example the rocket begins as yellow, and finally fades to purple as it dissipates.

These are just examples of the regular 2D fireworks used in the game. Other game features explained are Boom Boom Rocket‘s far more elaborate 3D modelled explosions – Bizarre lists 8 different types in bonus run, and 30 unlockable models in regular play. There’s also the matter of Kevin Reilly, the man who created the city models you guys have probably observed during your play. In-depth details should be available at the developer’s site – that would be the read link below.
