Split/Second is a racer, sure, but according to developer Black Rock it has more in common with games like Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2 than other racing games.
Black Rock’s hybrid action/racing game Split/Second features destructible environments that players can use to damage their opponents. The vehicular combat angle sets up for a showdown against Activision’s Blur, but producer Jason Reid says their game actually has more in common with Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2 than other racing games.
“[Activision’s] Blur is obviously competition – it’s racing and it’s doing things slightly different as well. But we almost feel we’re closer to Call of Duty or Uncharted in what we do than other racing games,” Reid told CVG.
“Animation-wise, Split/Second is the most ambitious thing that’s ever been done in a racing game,” “So that is where we come down to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 comparison – because of these huge set pieces.”
Split/Second comes out May 18th on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
