Capcom has been moving into the 2.5D space with its new fighting games. Arc System Works, however, won’t be following that trend anytime soon.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift producer Toshimichi Mori recently told Japanese gaming site 4Gamer that he’ll be sticking to 2D fighters for now. Why? Because he loves it.

“Presently, I’m going to continue with 2D,” he said. “The reason why I’m fixed on 2D is after thoroughly thinking it through I end up back there. I love anime. So, I love 2D. Funny story, if Hayao Miyazaki’s anime was drawn in 3D, I don’t think I would like it.”

Mori’s love affair with 2D doesn’t just concern his work on fighting games. According to him, he’ll stick to 2D even if he suddenly switched genres. So yeah, don’t expect to see a 3D Ragna execute a Carnage Scissors anytime soon.
