StarCraft II - Image 1Still from BlizzCon, Blizzard has announced another treat for their loyal fans, this time for StarCraft II, in the form of a new Marketplace service to go live in the near future. Of course, this is still aligned to their Battle.net world domination strategy.

The presentation showed that the the service will go live after the game’s launch, and will allow map makers to publish both free and “premium maps.” Rob Pardo said, “We want to make sure that the best amateur game designers out there are making maps for StarCraft II, and not for Kongregate or Steam or anything like that.”

He even takes a swipe at DoTA going something along the lines like this:

Think about it like this: something like Defense of the Ancients, I think, would be something like a free map because it doesn’t have a lot of original content… We totally intent for there to be a lot of free content.

Hooray, then.
