Blue Ray Technologies opens US-based Blu-Ray manufacturing plant
Blue (spelled with an “e”) Ray Technologies has just announced the completion of its US$ 12 million manufacturing plant over in Spokane, Washington. This plant is expected to provide America with its own independent Blu-Ray disc manufacturer, with one projected target market being the country’s local community of independent filmmakers.
The new plant reportedly uses eco-friendly materials supplied by GE, and is expected to churn out over 100,000 discs per day once production reaches its peak. Distribution for the plant’s discs will be handled by producer John Daly’s (“The Terminator,” Platoon”) Film and Music Entertainment Inc.
It is hoped that this production-distribution will offer indie film makers and budget-conscious producers with an affordable means to have their works printed in Blu-Ray format. As BRT founder Erik Hansen stated regarding his company’s target market:
The DVD market is already flat and starting to slide. Independents have to follow the majors in providing their content in next-gen formats. Plus, Blu-Ray lets producers sell their content all over again.
BRT’s Spokane plant is expected to be the company’s flagship production facility.
