Blu-ray forecast: player production costs to lower by 2010
If the prediction of Taiwan-based optical disc drive (ODD) makers are correct, then we just might see a drop in the production cost of Blu-ray disc players. According to their forecast, the media player will drop from US$ 99.99 to as much as US$ 50 by the year 2010.

As it stands today, production costs of a BD player are at US$ 100, including pick-up heads and chipsets, which, according to the source, account for 50% and 25% respectively. Obviously, if production costs fall, then retail prices will also fall — or at least that’s how it should go logically.
