Blu-ray, HD-DVD, and Google

Not really news, but still amusing to a certain degree. Tag this bit under Off-Topic. Ever wondered what’s Google‘s take on the whole Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD online pseudo debate that’s going on? Well, this isn’t really Google’s actual take on the issue, but this is what Google Trends show. Behold a screen capture of Google Trends:

Google Trends

Of course one has to be quick to note the “No data available” area at the bottom of the graph. Also, keep in mind that Google Trends is basically a popularity research tool that’s based on the number of searches for a said figure. Moreover keep in mind that Google Trends is still is in experimental stages and displays data from the beginning of 2004 to now.

What’s interesting about this is that this either means that there’s a whole lot more people curious about Blu-ray, or a whole lot of people already know what HD-DVD’s about and have no idea what Blu-ray has to offer.

Perhaps the reason why Blu-ray is so much more popular than HD-DVD in searches, is because of the online research that all of the online Blu-ray naysayers are making. Either that or all the Blu-ray skeptics are completely wrong, and that Blu-ray is the next step.

Just something to nibble on.
