Brief history of Command & Conquer 3 (and a pair of new screens)
For every video game genre, there is that one title that puts its particular genre on gamer’s radar. For the Real-Time Strategy class that game would be Command and Conquer. The game from Westwood Studios is noted for its live action full-motion video (FMV) cutscenes that keep the story moving forward as well give players their objectives for the next mission through a briefing. The popularity of Command & Conquer helped bring RTS genre to mainstream gamers.
Since 1995, Command & Conquer appeared on different platforms with each version uniquely different. The upcoming next-gen version for the Xbox 360, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, features an intuitive console-specific control scheme, fast-action strategy gameplay, deep single player campaign, and an immersive multiplayer experience massive battles where players control large armies on the its futuristic battlefield.
It marks the return of the C&C series to the console after seven years. “C&C 3 is a perfect fit for the Xbox 360,” said EA. “Xbox 360 players will enjoy the action-packed online play and watching the epic Sci-Fi story of the game unfold as they play through the single player campaign.”
C&C 3 is set in the Tiberium Universe and combines live action with high-definition video sequences. The next-gen version also featuring a cast of Hollywood talents Tricia Helfer, Josh Holloway, Michael Ironside, Billy Dee Williams, Grace Park, and more.

Sega Saturn
A direct port of the MS-DOS release to the Sega Saturn and appears exactly like the original MS-DOS release. It came packed with the Covert Operations missions.
PlayStation
Almost an exact replica of Sega Saturn version, the PS version featured five exclusive missions.
Gold Edition
A re-release of the original for Windows 95, it had an improved command bar interface better display resolution.
Nintendo 64
The in-game sprites were replaced by 3D rendered models and came with an optional high-resolution 640×480 mode and a MIDI rendition of the PC version’s soundtrack. Some cutscenes were converted to real-time 3D scenes.
Other PC Platforms
Running on a game engine for all MS Windows platforms known as Freecnc, this version required a retail copy of Command & Conquer. It offered the ability to build multiple units at once originally introduced in Tiberian Sun. Freecnc is also compatible with Linux.
Cancelled Sega Mega Drive version
Not much known about this mysterious version developed for the Sega Mega Drive. Its beta version somehow appeared on the net which can be downloaded and run be on a Mega Drive emulator.
