Bringing Carnage into Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

“Just to be as mean, savage, and up-close-and-personal as possible. All his attacks are really nasty. Carnage is out to hurt people, and he doesnÂ’t care about collateral damage along the way,” said designer Justin Heisler. “…we really wanted to play up the idea of a killing machine that simply did not stop.” One of the skills he revealed, Symbiote Surprise, involves dozens of jagged spikes shooting out of Carnage’s body.

“Carnage was a lot of fun to do because we had a bit more freedom to take him out of the standard “upright bipedal” character,” said Steve Vanseth, animator. “I worked mainly on his powers and traversal animations, and the main goal was to make him insanely viciousÂ… someone you donÂ’t want to mess with.”

As for lead animator Adam Olshan, he wanted to make sure that Carnage doesn’t end up like Spidey or Venom. “We really wanted to make sure we didnÂ’t make another Spider-Man or another Venom. It was really important that we make Carnage as unique as possible, especially in the way that he moved and the way that he attacked,” he said.

Spider-Man needs to be agile & springy. Venom was more of a bruiser, like a huge jungle cat who attacks with lethal clawed swipes. For Carnage, we wanted him to feel as quick as Spider-Man, but as dangerous as Venom (or worse). We ended up with a very “slashy” character. Carnage is like a lunatic knife fighter: cutting people up quickly and messily, without much concern for how he looks doing it.

As for the arrival, all is known right now is that Carnage will be heading to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game eventually, though no margin or other info has been given for release. Activision will let us know when the time comes.
