Bungie clarifies Halo 3 game disc mixup: Blame it on Microsoft
In light of the recent misunderstandings that resulted because of Halo 3‘s Collector’s Edition disc set, Bungie Studios has decided to step up to clarify matters. “The Collector’s Edition picture erroneously shows that it ships with a Bonus Content disc and a Game Two disc. Incorrect,” said their announcement.
This speculation goes back to a few days ago, when it was implied that Halo 3 would occupy a total of two discs. Bungie further elaborated on what was really in “Game Disc 2,” and who was responsible for the mislabeling:
It’s a mistake at MS’ (Microsoft) end and we’re updating retailers with the correct image. The ‘Game Disc 2’ shown in the art actually refers to an interactive Bonus Content disc. It’s an Xbox ‘executable’ (think of it like a menu-driven disc, similar to the Official Xbox Magazine cover disc) and internally, has always been referred to as ‘Game Disc 2’ because it has to go through the same certification process as Halo 3 itself. That was somehow communicated to MS retail marketing verbatim. Hence the error. No big deal.
That’s it for the moment, although as the Bungie announcement said, keep posted as retailer receive the corresponding correction, and Halo 3 Beta winds down.
