Bungie’s auto-update now up, so expect temporary problems

For all those folks who were wondering about Bungie’s previous news tidbit about exploding barrels and automated updates, fret not. The barrels aren’t here yet, but the auto-update has finally made its way to Xbox Live, promising some rather problematic multiplayer games upon its release, as well as new maps for Halo 2‘s future.

The auto-update will allow Halo 2 to recognize the Desolation and Tombstone maps coming out for multiplayer, but will also force some slowdowns and minor issues on a good number of consoles for a short while. This is due to the clearing of gamers’ online networking history, which will basically force each connection to start from scratch in learning the ideal way to get the multiplayer function to work on their console. Furthermore, maps will take a little longer to load for the first few games, as the auto-update will also erase the map cache.

On the bright side, you’ll be getting the two new maps next week, so a little patience, and some practice should get you ready and your console up-to-speed for the latest additions to Bungie’s ever-popular Halo game.
