Buy 2 Get 1 Free At Gamestop

4R's“Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” – it’s a mantra that’s not only vital to our survival on this planet, its the right thing to do. It can save you money, as well.

Game Informer Magazine has a coupon it its July issue, good for a free game when you buy two used games at your local Gamestop store. In addition, there’s a coupon good for $20 toward the purchase of a new console when you trade in the old one.

Now, for the fine print (you knew it was there, didn’t you?):

– The discount will be based on the least expensive game, so plan on purchasing three games at $55 each if you want to get the full value out of the coupon.

– You’ll need a GameInformer card ($15) in order to qualify for the promotion. (You can buy it at Gamestop and EB.)

Some other observations: watch out for price increases – often, promotions like this come in the wake of a higher retail price, in order to offset the increase and make the consumer feel as if they’re getting a deal. Other gamers point out that used XBox 360 games are sold at Gamestop for only $5 less than a new one – so essentially, the buyer is getting a used game at the new price, minus applicable sales taxes. Since Gamestop apparently gives only a $12 credit on used games, it may not seem to be worth it.

Still, a game is a digital item that – barring excessive abuse – should last indefinitely. Every used game purchased means less resources used in the manufacture of a new one, so even if its just for the planet – and a small thing at that – its worth considering.
