Capcom announces Bionic Commando remake for XBLA, PSN, PC

Well, Capcom has announced that it will be delivering a remake of the classic 2D action platformer as a digital download with Bionic Commando Rearmed for the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC.

NES cover of Capcom's Bionic Commando - Image 1With the next-gen resurrection of Nathan Spencer well underway, Capcom has decided to give fans of the Bionic Commando series a little extra something that’s sure to make veteran gamers nostalgic.

The company has announced that it will be releasing a makeover of the classic 8-bit game originally released 20 years ago as a digital download for the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC this Spring.

Titled Bionic Commando Rearmed, this remake will feature new visuals and sounds, new weapons, online rankings, and even a 2-player co-op mode. Aside from all that, completing parts of Bionic Commando Rearmed will unlock new content for the next-gen version of the game that will be released later this year.

Here’s a list of the features that Bionic Commando Rearmed will contain:

  • Classic Bionic Commando gameplay focused around the use of the bionic grappling arm
  • 2-player co-op mode
  • Total modern visual revamp, including dynamic shadows, particle effects and environmental damage
  • Reworking of musical score
  • Cross-game interoperability – complete specific parts of Bionic Commando Rearmed to unlock new content and hints for the Bionic Commando sequel
  • In-game art designed by one of CapcomÂ’s most talented artists, Toshiaki Mori
