Capcom Embraces ‘American ‘ Approach

HeaderThere was a time that the “American Way” of developing things was the only way to do it–until the Japanese reorganized and changed some of the procedures. They were able to churn out a lot of output (cars, etc.) than the Americans. However, it seems that some Japanese game developers are looking up to US game developers once more.

Unlike most Japanese game developers, Capcom has decided to do the “American Approach” in making games. Most Japaneses Game companies create graphics engines from the ground up per game. Yep, you read that right, it’s like re-inventing the wheel every time a new car model comes off the shelf. This usually results in long development time. Capcom has decided to use a modularised based graphics engine to ensure that all game titles have the same quality. It also saves them on time for delivery.

The graphics engine is rumored to be almost like Unreal Engine 3.However, currently, the graphics engine only runs on the Xbox360, but hopefully they Capcom can do something about porting it to other consoles.

Should Japanese game developers follow? We’ve read somewhere that Atlus and Square-Enix has been doing it already. As far as we’re concerned if the gamer likes the game, it’s ok with us.
