Capcom: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 not part of MvC 2 deal, Tatsunoko vs Capcom not heading for US any time soon
Just because we’re getting Marvel vs Capcom 2 on PSN and XBLA doesn’t mean we’re also gonna be seeing Marvel vs Capcom 3 on those online services any time soon. This was revealed by Capcom’s Seth Killian, who clarified that the MvC2 licensing deal doesn’t cover MvC3. Killian also revealed that licensing problems are standing in the way of a US release of Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
Just because we’re getting Marvel vs Capcom 2 on PSN and XBLA doesn’t mean we’re also gonna be seeing Marvel vs Capcom 3 on those online services any time soon. This was revealed by Capcom’s Seth Killian, who clarified that the MvC2 licensing deal doesn’t cover MvC3:
The short answer is no, that’s not any part of this deal. What we’re hoping is that if people get really juiced about this title, and we can show Marvel that there’s a lot of heat behind this, then they’ll open up the door for us to do something with ‘3,’ which is something we’d love to do.
Licensing problems are also keeping Tatsunoko vs Capcom from crossing over into North America. Unlike Japan, where rights for the Tatsunoko characters are held by only one company, 13 separate companies hold the rights in the US. This is an old problem actually. Super Robot Taisen fans will note that the same problem has been keeping the series’ main games from getting US releases.
There is a bit of good news, at least. According to Killian, Capcom is also thinking about releasing MvC2-branded arcade sticks. “It’s a discussion … we would love to make it happen,” he said. “If you saw the ‘leak’ of those MadCatz sticks, that was actually B.S. That was a complete fabrication, but it’s something we would love to do.”
