Capcom Showcases Dead Rising at E3

Today at E3, Capcom showcased their Xbox360 game title Dead Rising.  A game which depicts a scenario where you must survive in the midst of the undead, fighting for your life and for answers to what you’ve just gotten yourself into.

The name of the main character is Frank West, a photojournalist who is on a quest for the ultimate story. While following up on a promising lead, Frank finds himself in a strange town where people are seriously getting owned by some classic zombie action, with very polished graphics.

Dead rising features gameplay mechanics that will add certain twists and new possibilities to what you would normally expect from a hack n’ slash adventure. Time continues independently of the game’s level or story progress. You see, during the day zombies very sluggish and weak but when the sun sets and darkness falls, the zombies become stronger, faster, hungrier and even uglier!

The zombies you encounter in Dead Rising all have unique appearances and actions that reflect what each one did in their life before joining the zombie horde. I wonder what would happen if a human bit a zombie? While I dont think Dead Rising will allow you to make Frank bite the zombies, it will allow you to pick up just about any object you can find and start swinging away at your soft fleshy enemies.

Dead Rising uses a technology called “Swarm” which allows the game engine to display an unbelievable number of enemy characters on screen at once. “Swarm” technology is the key to the nonstop action that this game promises.

While this game is extremely gory and quite violent, expect some humorous elements too. Jack can use a variety of items, each with different effects. A stack of parking cones can turn a group of zombies into an aimless undead circus by placing a cone over the head of each zombie.

Frank can also eat food that he finds in each area he comes across. Got the munchies? Dig in! That’s what the zombies are thinking too! Players will also have to take pictures of all the craziest things they see to reap big rewards with the news company.

Dead Rising will be released in North America August of 2006.
