Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Orlean will have to combine their brute strength and magical abilities in order to defeat Dracula, the big daddy of all the undead, bloodsuckers in Konami‘s sequel to Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow titled Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

This is also one of the few times that the adventure is not entirely confined inside the castle. As suggested by the title, portraits act as a portal that’ll be your ticket to different locations like a European-style town or an Egyptian desert.

Gameplay on this almost-finished form of the game revolves around the two new characters working together to accomplish certain tasks. An example of which is a puzzle where they should arrange pillars as a way to reach higher ledges. One of the characters should should be on the pillar while the other would push it in the right direction, so the other could jump to the topmost ledge. Once it’s been done, the character who was pushing the pillar would automatically be teleported to join his/her partner.

As teamwork is the running theme of this Castlevania installment, the game also gives players the ability to bring in the other character as a computer AI-controlled partner to help take out enemies, but if they take damage, it’ll drain the combined MP of the two characters. Success on side quests are given by a spirit character named Wind; that would enable you to gain special abilities like the side attack (useful in getting access to different areas of the castle) would also rely on your combined efforts.

It will still support the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service, both for the game’s “Boss Rush” mode as well as a new shop option.
