Cave Story for PSP?

I’m certain that by now most people have heard of Cave Story. One of the most popular freeware games among gamers, its popularity has grown to a point that thousands upon thousands of people now play it. It’s an 8-bit 2D adventure game that borrows elements from the 2D Metroid and Castlevania franchises. Now we hear from 1UP that Cave Story might soon be released for the PSP.

Where 1UP got this information is puzzling. I can’t find any information other than what they say, but seeing as they’re a major video game website, it seems promising. There are a few problems though. Sony is usually reluctant to publish 2D games, and one that features 8-bit graphics might be pushing it. Also, the creator is really reluctant to have his game distributed with a price tag attached.

If all goes well, the PSP may just have a title on par with Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.  Check back with us for updates.

PS: Thanks to  an anonymous commentor, we’ve received more information on this. The game will feature updated graphics and sound, but an original version will be included as well. Read more about it  by clicking “Read.”
