Changes Coming to City of Heroes/City of Villains Universe
NCsoft and Cryptic Studios recently gave folks a sneak peak at the new content for upcoming Issue 7: Destiny Manifest. Code named “RecluseÂ’s Victory,” this event allowed all participants to have level 40 characters. However, when players entered the zone, and encountered other players, everyone got leveled to 50 – without skill allocation points. As a result, things were a bit chaotic.
New costume options, including some plant looks, were premiered. There’s a new option for the mastermind set as well – the thug (see below). And at level 40, masterminds were getting almost 10 minions.
Issue 7 will have two new high-level zones, 200 new missions, five new power sets, new base features, mayhem missions and patron powers and graphic upgrades. Last Thursday night, however, it was about PvP action and exploration of the new features on the test server. The action was fast and furious, but because all the zones were PvP enabled – and level 40 was new to many – characters spent a great deal of time at the hospital. Death was no stranger to this event, but once in the hospital, players got a breather in order to heal up. A lot of hospital visits were due to the heavy robot pets that were available – colorful and deadly.
It led to some player frustration. Players at level 40, playing with a level 40 partner tried to take out a level 50 NPC, an enemy player coming through with one of those pets that can wipe out large groups sent characters to hospitals quickly. When one had only 1,017.4 hit points and could be hit for 1,268.28 points of damage, it got old quickly. Load times between zones were lengthy as well.
The new Mastermind thug was a hit. At level 40 he could pull up six minions – two punks, an arsonist, two enforcers and a bruiser (along with a seventh if you count his dark servant from another power set). Arriving on his motorcycle (described as “a cool effect”), the mastermind threw down a bag and the minion yanked out leathers and sometimes machineguns.
Despite the glitches, most of those who participated agreed that ReclusesÂ’ Victory was an entertaining experience – and a way-cool preview of what’s ahead for the City of Heroes/City of Villains universe.
