Chaos Zero apologizes for dark_thug’s downgrader

ForgivenessTime to get rid of a lot more confusion, and to make amends. We all got into a frenzy over the news of a TA-082 downgrader for the PSP, though everyone was somewhat skeptical of it working. Like it or not, it’s been pretty much confirmed as a hoax, so we’ve decided to post this little bit of news just in case anyone’s still feeling agitated over the issue.

Chaos Zero posted an apology over at the PSP HaXors blog for the release of dark_thug’s downgrader. According to his statement, he was holding onto it for a while because he didn’t have a way to verify it himself. He managed to find three people to test the downgrader and they said it worked, so he took them on their word, releasing the app with all the necessary precautions in the article.

While we can’t really verify the individual reports of people who said it either worked, did nothing, or bricked their units, we can verify that many sites, including ours, posted the news as soon as it came up. Until Dark_Alex and birdman said it was a hoax, however, we were all still hopeful. Of course, some of us might feel angry, hence, this post which hopes to smooth some ruffled feathers.

In any case, we’d like to thank Chaos Zero for what he’s doing. It was definitely a tough decision to release something like that, especially since it would have been a great day for PSP hacking. Rest assured that QJ doesn’t hold any hard feelings for the incident and, like you said, the best thing to do is to just move on.

Besides, it’s Christmas. What Would Jesus Do, right? Here’s to hoping someone actually makes all our firmware-fixing dreams come true. *holds up a bottle of Gatorade* Cheers.
