Character classes in Mass Effect
BioWare has released more info about the different character classes — “Fields of Discipline” as they’re known in the game — available to players in their upcoming Xbox 360 title Mass Effect. Check ’em out below.
First off, we’ve got the Infiltrator. Infiltrators specialize in long-range combat. They’re trained to use OmniTools with a focus on decryption and offensive abilities, but Infiltrators can also unlock the First Aid Talent. Infiltrators can train with pistols or sniper rifles and can upgrade their armor to medium.
Starting Talents:
- Pistols
- Tactical Armor (light to start, upgrading to medium)
- Electronics
- Decryption
Unlockable Talents:
- Sniper Rifles
- Fitness
- Shielding
- First Aid

Next, the Vanguard. Front-line biotic warriors fill up this class. Vanguards combine offensive biotic abilities and weapons training to quickly lay the smackdown on their opponents. They’re especially deadly at short range, and can train with pistols and shotguns. Vanguards can also learn to wear medium armor.

- Fitness
- Throw
- Warp
Unlockable Talents:
- Shotguns
- Tactical Armor (light to start, upgrading to medium)
- Lift
- Barrier
Finally, we have the Sentinel. This is your typical medic-type character class. Combining biotic and tech abilities, Sentinels usually use the former along with advanced healing skills to provide support and defend their allies. When needed, they can also use tech or biotic attacks to disrupt their enemies. They’re better in both tech and biotics than other classes, but Sentinels don’t receive any advanced weapon training and can only wear light armor.

- Barrier
- Electronics
- First Aid
Unlockable Talents:
- Lift
- Stasis
- Decryption
- Medicine
