Chart Track UK: Burnout Paradise sizzles on top, January 28
Drivers, start your engines! It sure looks like there’s a new top-notcher on the UK’s gaming preference, and it doesn’t have anything to do with soccer balls, plumber long jumps or WWII reincarnates. Burnout Paradise from publisher Electronic Arts left the competition in a flurry of dust and burning rubber, and even set EA at a tie for the most games on the top ten with Nintendo. More at the full story.
Criterion’s Burnout Paradise has done very well in its first week out – and that’s in the week ending January 28 – in the UK, zooming past SEGA‘s Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (now at second) and Activision’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (now at third). The newcomer also serves as EA’s third bid in an attempt to outnumber other publisher’s top ten qualifying titles.
Nintendo, however, isn’t backing down from a fight, as Wii Play with Wii Remote continues to hold strong fourth place. Replacing the Wii Play in its oft occupied seat is the also long-running Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training from Nintendo, though EA’s The Simpsons Game tails close behind at sixth. Spot number seven goes to Ubisoft‘s Assassin’s Creed, which manages to hold EA’s FIFA 08 down at eighth.
THQ’s Ratatouille, however, is the week’s most impressive comeback, jumping more than 20 spots to number nine, pushing Nintendo’s More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima to a hair’s edge at number ten. At the most sales front by unit per platform, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games outnumbers any figures Burnout Paradise could spew on either the Microsoft Xbox 360 or the Sony PlayStation 3 – ranked second and third in that order.
