Chiip: open source Wii modchips on the cheap
This should interest the Wii-loving handymen out there. We found out there was someone offering plans for people to make their very own modchip from scratch… an open source modchip project, if you will.
Developed by Cadex, Chiip builds upon the concepts of the existing modchips as currently existing Wii modchips (Wiinja, Wiikey, etc.) require only one microcontroller. Not that it’s easy to build, of course, but it’s definitely simpler with only one microcontroller. Best of all, it should take a dedicated modder only a few bucks to buy everything needed for it.
Speaking of building though, you run the risk of breaking your Wii if you try this, so inexperienced modders need not apply. The rewards may be great, but the risks are equally so. In any case, if you’re good with your hands, it’s definitely worth learning about.
