Whoever said that Christians don’t have a place in the gaming industry should pray to their gods. Or better yet, they could try visiting Second Life and the newly established World Vision Alternative Gift Catalogue Village. We know that was quite long and don’t say WTF just ’cause mentioned Christian. Let us break this down for you.

First things first, World Vision is actually a Christian charity agency that busies itself by helping poor and impoverished countries around the world. Usually, they combat any world issues concerning poverty, hunger, and injustice. The Alternative Gift Catalogue or AGC is a portion on their official website that allows for donation of necessary things such as blankets, school supplies, medicines, livestock and so on.

Now, World Vision decided to join MMO Second Life and put up AGC village to spread this good Samaritan act. Accordingly, 3D objects are placed within the village. Should residents find any item there that they have in real life and want to donate, they can do so by clicking the link beside the item. That then will take them directly to the original AGC online site.

These kind of acts definitely leave a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Also, these are the exact things that reality-based MMOs have that fantasy-based ones don’t. We’re not saying that Second Life is better than other MMOs as they are all different and unique. We’re just saying that SL certainly has a touch of humanity to it.
