Church to Sony: apology accepted, but it’s not enough
The last time we reported on the current scuffle between the Church of England and Sony, the latter had already sent out a formal letter apologizing for the hub-bub caused about displaying a photo-realistic Cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man – but Sony did not accept that there was truly a connection between the real-world 21st century Manchester and fictional, alien-overran-world Manchester.
This wasn’t enough for the Church of England. Their reaction to Sony’s letter, verbatim:
We acknowledge the admission by Sony that the building in the game is Manchester Cathedral. We thank Sony for the apology they have made. However, we do not move from the position that we are against violence and especially the gun violence seen in this portrayal of the Cathedral.
We are pleased that Sony wish to come and meet with us in Manchester as today we offered them such an invitation. In the meeting with Sony we will discuss our outstanding demands, how this game came to be produced and where the images of the Cathedral came from.
Outstanding demands? Does this mean negotiations and yet more debates? One thing’s for sure, though, it’s not over between these two sides just yet. Updates as we get them, and meanwhile, let us know what you think by your comments.
