Codemasters: Sensible World of Soccer going to XBLA this month, PC to follow
Codemasters promised gamers a while back that they would be enjoying the classic Sensible World of Soccer on the Xbox Live Arcade, but gamers still haven’t seen hide nor hair of the old school soccer sim anywhere. In a recent interview with Codemaster Online Gaming’s Jim Brown, he explains the game’s delay on the XBLA version’s previously announced August release date.
It was previously thought that the licensing issues for the players and team names were the reason behind this. However, Brown explains that the delay was caused by the fact that the developers were not happy with the quality of the network performance and had to rewrite a lot of the network code needed to run the game. The online multiplayer feature for both the PC and XBLA versions of the game was going to be one of the bigger highlights for this classic remake.

As for the plans to release Sensible World of Soccer on the PC, this is what he had to say:
We’re reviewing the plans for the PC version; obviously following the challenges we’ve had achieving excellent network play on a fixed hardware platform like the 360, achieving SWOS on a variable hardware platform needs to be assessed. Our focus is on releasing the 360 title pre-Christmas right now, we’ll have news on the PC version once that’s done.
While Codemasters is aiming to release Sensible World of Soccer for the XBLA this month, Brown admitted that this tentative schedule is still subject to change. Let’s all just hope that the developers can stay on track so that gamers can enjoy this classic soccer sim.
