Command & Conquer For DS WIP Report: Map Editor
Back in August, we watched the GUI in action for the Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn project. The project, in case some people are reading about this homebrew for the firs time, is an attempt to bring the popular real-time PC strategy game to the DS. The developer, who goes by the name cncds_project, has been working on the game for quite some time now.
If you’ve been lurking the project’s WIP blog, you’d know that the developer had been talking about Maps and Map Editor. At this point, he was able to post a couple of screenshots of the Map Editor.
As you can see, there are red cross tiles all over the place. They’re simply blank parts of the map. You just need to choose a template displayed on the right hand side and position it to the appropriate map area. To make this process quicker, the developer is planning to add scroll bars.
Don’t be put off by the small map area as it’s just a portion of the entire area. The Map Properties prompts a dialog box where map name and size can be changed. Further improvements include “layers” for the terrain, buildings, AI triggers, etc.
With this update, it becomes clear that the project is slowly taking shape. We know that a big project like this takes time to complete, but we gotta admit that things are looking pretty good.
