Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 cancelled for PS3? - Image 1 Now when Electronic Arts decided to roll out the red carpet for Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, they seemed pretty confident about targeting the strategy game for not only the PC but even the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. But if the whispers we hear are accurate, it seems that only one console would be getting a piece of the Red Alert 3 gaming pie. Find out what we learned at the full story.

Somehow, GameStop‘s game listing for the PlayStation 3 is now missing Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, which had been announced by Electronic Arts for the PC, Xbox 360, and Sony‘s console in February 2008.

This comes as a new development to earlier rumors that something wasn’t going right with the PS3 port – an issue that EA’s community manager could only say, “I can’t speak of the PS3 version right now.”

Well, that doesn’t sound promising. EA’s John Riccitiello did say that PlayStation 3 development inside the publisher has been problematic earlier this year. But before we could attribute these rumors with the issues of PS3 development, we’re aware that there could be more factors that could have led to the omission of Red Alert 3 from the PS3 release list.

Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 is still set for the PC and Xbox 360. We’ll keep this filed under rumors until official word has been wrung out of the superstar publisher. Stay tuned.

*Update* We just got confirmation that the PS3 version isn’t cancelled after all. This, coming from Strategy Informer. Turns out that the devs just put it on hold for now. A statement from EA PR manager Jonathan Goddard reads thus:

We can confirm that the development of Red Alert 3 for PS3 has been put on hold. EALA is focusing resources on development for PC and Xbox 360 which will ship simultaneously this autumn.
