Commodore4Eva Releases Xtreme Firmware for Hitachi 47D Xbox 360

xbox360When Commodore4Eva released a firmware that makes playing with back-up Xbox 360 games possible on the Toshiba-Samsung TS-H943 DVD-ROM drive, those who own Microsoft’s next-gen console with the Hitachi drive have been clamoring for the same privileges. Well, their requests did not go to deaf ears. After announcing that the Xtreme firmware for Hitachi 47D Xbox 360 will be coming in 48 hours, Commodore4Eva stays true to his words.

Here’s what you 360 fans have been waiting for: the backup firmware modification to boot game backups on a Hitachi 47D Xbox 360. This firmware allows you to boot all Xtreme Xbox 360 backups, Xtreme Xbox 1 backups supported by emulator, Xbox 360 originals, and Xbox 1 originals supported by emulator. Of course, Commodore4eva warns you should use this firmware on Xbox Live at your own risk.

Here’s are the instructions on how to flash your drive to achieve the above features (be sure you know what you’re doing…you and you alone are responsible if the 360 breaks down):

  • xtreme.bat automatically makes a backup of your dvd drive firmware called orig.bin.
  • Plug SATA cable from DVD drive to PC. Power cable drive still connected to Xbox 360
  • Ensure Hitachi drive is in mode b either by two wire trick or slax linux boot cd
  • Go to Windows
  • Run xtreme.bat batch file from a dos prompt specifying drive letter eg “xtreme.bat g”
  • All done!
  • Run restore.bat to revert to original firmware eg “restore.bat g”

Commodore4eva advises that since the Hitachi drive is less tolerant of dual layer media, you should try a few times to boot a back-up.

There were a few people who helped Commodore4eva make this project possible – Seventhson for flashsec and memdump and Loser for firmcrypt – and he wishes to thank them. To those who have a Hitachi 46 version, Commodore4eva is working on a firmware for you as well.
