Confirmed: future PS3 firmware gets DivX technology

While it’s still uncertain if the Microsoft Xbox 360 will get DivX support, it’s now confirmed that the Xbox 360’s rival, Sony‘s PlayStation 3, will be integrated with DivX technology. DivX Inc. just announced that they are now currently working on certifying the PS3 for DivX. This is to ensure good quality video playback on Sony’s next-gen console.

The DivX support for the PS3 will be installed to the console units on a later software update, so better make sure you install the next firmware update to take advantage of the added DivX support. Not only will DivX be used in playing media, it will also be used in gaming technology. In fact, DivX Inc. already updated PS3’s SDK (Software Development Kit) to let game developers use DivX’s decoder in PS3 software.
