Console trade-ins: PS3 gets you less cash
Over at Kotaku, Pokemogu sent them an interesting tidbit of Japanese life that kind of makes us wonder. If the Xbox 360 isn’t selling very well, how come people are paying more to trade their 360 in?
According to the retail giant known as Sofmap, from which two pictures above were taken, the trade-in rate for the PS3 is around Â¥ 29,700 for a 20GB PS3. On the other hand, Sofmap’s willing to pay Â¥ 30,250 for an Xbox 360.
That might seem like a big difference, but in dollars and common cents, that’s four dollars between the two consoles (US$ 245 versus US$ 249). We don’t know what’s going on with Sofmap, but if they’re selling the 20GB versions at a premium, they’re making a relatively hefty profit compared to eBay fans hoping to sell their consoles for higher than the original asking price.
