This product seems to be aimed at people who are mostly affluent and certainly serious about creating an intense experience with their home theater system. While Okoro products, like the GX300 (the worlds fastest HTPC [Home Theater PC]), may not yet be household names, the company’s focus on using state of the art components to build quality entertainment systems will likely impress most home entertainment aficionados. Since Okoro is aiming for a high end demographic segment as its customer base, its products are mainly cutting edge and made using the most recent advances in digital technology.

The TH550 and TH540 are Okoro HTPCs that run on XP Media Center Edition utilize the E6400 and E6300 Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and have a GB of ram a piece. They come in a single, black enclosure that resembles a stereo component and offer wireless and high definition capabilities. The GX300, with its faster (nearly 3Ghz) X6800 Core 2 Duo processor, large touchscreen display, up to 4GB of low latency ram, two 512MB Nvidia 7950GX2 graphics cards (with SLi board of course), and up to 2TB of storage, is in league with the ultimate in home entertainment. To be fair, every Okoro HTPC comes complete with separate graphics and sound cards and is equipped to be every bit as powerful and versatile as today’s workstations and desktops.

Power is not the only thing that was addressed during the design stage for the latest round of Okoro HTPCs. Quiet, cool operation was also a goal that was pursued at least as diligently as power and speed. According to Christopher Curry, VP of Sales and Operations,”Our new digital entertainment systems run up to 40 percent faster and quieter than our previous generation. This allows us to provide an unrivaled multimedia experience to all of our customers.” Also included with the package is DTS technology that allows for the “playback of 7.1 HD audio, HDPC compliant video playback and ATSC recording capabilities.

The emergence of the HTPC heralds a new era in home entertainment. Convergence is affecting more than just our PDAs and cellphones nowadays. Our computers are finally starting to merge with other common devices found within the home. As with other technologies, price will most likely keep mainstream buyers away from many high end digital entertainment products for now. Given some time in the market and a reduction in price, comprehensive digital entertainment systems like these could certainly become as common place in America as the home entertainment and home theater systems of today.
