Countdown to Megaton! Get on the Hype Train!

WiiWe’re finally getting into the final stretch leading up to the Wii launch. Ever since Iwata announced that “Nintendo Revolution” was in development at E3 2004, we’ve been like rabbits following a carrot on a string. Now, the string is about to be cut. The rabbit shall be free! Starting tomorrow evening and continuing until the wee hours of the morning on Friday, Nintendo will be hosting Wii conferences around the world. First up is Japan at around 5:00 PM PDT on Wednesday. The second event will be held in New York City at around 6:00 AM PDT on Thursday. The last event will be held in Europe at around 1:00 AM PDT on Friday. It will be a one hour conference followed by about six hours of gameplay time for attendees.

The floodgates are opening and we should be hearing everything about the Wii from launch dates and launch price to new games! This is Nintendo’s big chance to try and steal the spotlight before Sony even gets a chance to speak at the Tokyo Game Show. You can bet your savings account that they’ll do something extraordinary! You might have noticed that news on the Wii channel has been slow lately, this is likely the reason why.

What should we expect?

  • Realistically: price, date, launch lineup, maybe 3 new games
  • Hopefully: virtual console details including price, in-depth WiiConnect 24 details, in-depth Nintendo WiFi connection details
  • Wishful Thinking: more Super Smash Bros. Brawl details

What are you hoping comes out of the new conference? Leave us some comments and we’ll see if you’re right in the coming days. After that, there will hopefully be a stream of steady Wii news! Note: We make no promises as to what’s happening at the conferences. We’re as much in the dark as you guys are. We’re making some fancy guesswork and want to hear yours too. Don’t blame us if Nintendo under-delivers; blame Nintendo! Click “Read” for a fun little site with a countdown timer and fan-made pictures!
