DaedalusX64 dev status update: Beta 2 release window, design contest announced
I’m sure more than a handful of you have been wondering whatever happened to the Daedalusx64 project. We were expecting something for everyone’s Nintendo 64 emulator of choice for the PSP sometime towards the end of last year, and now, Kreationz has finally announced that Beta 2 may be getting a release shortly, and while we’re waiting on that, they’re also holding a design contest for all you guys to join in!
I’m sure more than a handful of you have been wondering whatever happened to the Daedalusx64 project. We were expecting something for everyone’s Nintendo 64 emulator of choice for the PSP sometime towards the end of December, and now, we finally hear of an update.
Here’s Kreationz posting a dev status update on their DX64 forums the other day. Looks like DaedalusX64 Beta 2 will be rolling out shortly, if the stars align just right:
Well first the apology. Sorry I’ve been gone so long life just got busy between work and other things, but I should have down time over the next week to get back in the game so to speak. I’ve started going over the myriad of changes to the code since I left and will be looking at my prior ideas that I haven’t implemented yet. So real quick here’s my plan for the next week or so.
Get caught up on all the forums. (Got a lot of reading to do.) Go over all the revision changes I missed. Test some old bugs to see if they are still there. Then get back to diving into the code. I’m going to look at cleaning up the code, blasting a few quick bugs, checking stability issues and getting ready for the Beta 2. I’ve been talking with the other devs about this and we feel it’s getting close to time for it, so I’m going to be shooting for the end of the month on this (but it may take a bit longer) and trying to pack in as many bug fixes/graphical fixes for as many of the playable titles as possible.
He followed up this announcement with another post from yesterday. Now, you guys get to join in on the fun. Just like how StrmnNrmn had his own art contest for Daedalus some time back, the team is doing the same for DaedalusX64. Here we have an announcement of the contest, plus info on a minor bug fix:
In anticipation of Beta 2, I have begun a new EBOOT Background/Icon contest. I will personally be the moderator for this. On the code side of things:
[!] Fixed White Ghosting in Mario Kart 64 (Hopefully with performance issues this time.)
Also the texture cache can be flushed less often now which should allow for a slight performance boost in some circumstances. (More may be able to be done here but I have to do some testing.)
Now I know a lot of you guys may be disappointed, and are raring to get your hands on the next release, but don’t worry. I’m sure you guys can busy yourselves in the mean time with fleshing out your vector art skills and Photoshop manipulation. A release is coming, so all we have to do is sit patiently and wait. No sense in rushing things, right guys?
