Damaged Fuel Tank Another Setback for NASA?
There are accidents that can be avoided, like this mishap that occurred at the Kennedy space center.
Technicians were repairing the Lockheed Martin-made 47-meter tank when a work lamp fell on it. Repairs were being made to the remodeled fuel tank which NASA is planning to use on the next shuttle mission. The lamp hit the tank’s foam insulation.
The physical damage to the tank consists of five small indentations (the biggest being the size of a stick of gum) and one long scratch 6 inches long.
Lockheed Martin Spokesperson Marion LaNasa says the damage to the fuel tank will not affect the scheduled July 1 shuttle launch.
