Sony's PlayStation Portable handheld - Image 1We’re happy to announce that homebrew developer Dark AleX has released the latest custom firmware for the PlayStation Portable with CFW 3.90 M33. This new build fixes yet another bug connected to the March33 NO UMD.

Here’s the specifics on the update taken from the Readme:

  • March33 NO UMD: fixed (yet another) bug related with exiting with home. (infinite semaphore wait)

The developer also noted the changes in the auto-updater function that was included in the previous version of CFW 3.80. He’s noted some instability with the latest version of the updater. Should this happen, Dark AleX mentions that you should restart the installer and try again.

In any case, here’s the list of changes to the updater:

  • The degeneration check and correction of IDS keys happens too in 3.71 now.
  • Added code to download 3.90 PBP from net via wifi. Note that his code is not yet 100% stable, it may crash when selecting AP. In that case, reinit the installer.
  • L+triangle has been restored as method to bypass battery. If you already have 390.PBP keep those buttons pressed until you see “Veryfing 390.PBP”. If the 390.PBP is being downloaded bia wifi, press those buttons at the end of download until you see the previous sentence.

We strongly advise you to take a look at the Readme.txt file for more details on how to install the latest custom firmware on your PSP handheld. Please note that this requires your PSP to have CFW 3.52 M33-3 or higher already installed before updating.

Thanks to EXETER, Ari Bornstein, TheDragon, and all the other tipsters for the heads up!

*Update* This just in: Dark AleX updated his site with the release of the 1.50 kernel addon for the PlayStation Portable Fat. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this program, the 1.50 kernel addon allows users to launch homebrew which have not been updated.

Please be advised that this new update only works for the newly released CFW 3.90 M33. In any case, here are the instructions on how to install the addon to your PSP running on CFW 3.90 M33:

  • Copy 150k_addon to /PSP/GAME
  • Get sony 1.50 update and copy it to the root with name “150.PBP”
  • Run the program and done.

**UPDATE 2**
Dark AleX has updated his site again, releasing version 2 of the 1.50 kernel addon for the Sony PlayStation Portable Fat. This update currently works with your PSPs with CFW 3.90 M33. Here’s the changelog for Dark AleX’ 1.50 kernel addon version 2:

  • TA086: when being in 4th brightness level and recovering from sleep mode, the display was black. Fixed.
  • Added support in the 1.50 kernel for memory sticks greater than 4 GB. (I finally got my 8GB card! :D) Before, only the first 4 GB portion was recognized by the 1.5 kernel. Now, the theroetical limit is 4GB*512 = 2 Terabytes. (“only” 1 TB, if sony were using signed variables).

To install this update, just copy to /PSP/GAME and then run. Enjoy!

Thanks to Ari Bornstein for the tip!
