Dassault releases Virtools PSP solution package for devs

Virtools logoDassault Systèmes has just announced the release of their Virtools PSP solution package, which is designed to help game developers in improving their titles in terms of flexibility and overall performance.

Never heard of Dassault’s Virtools before? Well basically, what it does is combine graphical and text scripting, GUI’s, debug tools, and API’s (such as behavior, asset integration plug-ins, and render engines) to help game developers errr…develop their titles in a more efficient way.

Virtools is designed and framed within a drag-and-drop interface. So for devs, this means that the preview window shows in real-time how much transformation is done, making it much easier to track the progress of the game development. So far, the only known PSP title where Virtools has been used is Konami‘s Leviathan Games-developed Online Chess Kingdoms.

And as a testimony to the wonder that is Virtools, and how much it helps developers, here’s what Leviathan’s President and chief CTO had to say about Dassault Systèmes’ Virtools PSP solution package:

Thanks to Virtools solutions for the PSP and the permanent support we received throughout the game development, we were able to build a superior product in a shorter development timeframe with a very limited team. We had to write just a bit of custom code to integrate third party libraries for AI and turn-based multiplayer technology. The performance of the Virtools engine on the PSP ended up being outstanding.

Awww, now that didn’t sound like an infomercial at all, huh? Hahaha. If you’re befuddled about all this dev and tools talk, just think of it this way: faster and better game development means better PSP games for us.
