Datel releases Wii-compatible Freeloader discs for Gamecube titles
Datel‘s Freeloader for the Gamecube was a godsend for gamers who were itching to try out some region-locked games. It gave Gamecube owners anywhere in the world an easy and cheap way to play games from anywhere else in the world.
Then comes the region-locked Wii. Some versions of the de-zoning disc worked with the Wii, but some wouldn’t. In order to remedy the situation, Datel has released a bunch of Wii-compatible Freeloader discs. According to Siliconera, there are four versions of the Wii-ready Freeloader and one multi region disc that works with all Gamecubes and Japanese Wii consoles.
Unfortunately, these updated discs only allow import game playback of Gamecube titles. Wii titles are not yet supported. On the bright side, Datel is also reportedly experimenting with the Wii, and a Wii Freeloader is probably going to surface soon. Hopefully it won’t encounter the delays that plagued the Gamecube Freeloader.
