David Jaffe renews call for unified video game platform in the future - Image 1We all have our preferred consoles not only now, but even during the previous generation of video game platforms. It is the standard that some features will be present in one platform with others offering another that is not available on other consoles.

David Jaffe, however, believes that gamers will benefit the most if the future of the video game industry will be built around just one console. Check out the full article via the “read more” link below.

The console war has been going on for so long with accounts saying that we are currently in the 7th generation of this particular hardware race. There have been victors and there have been losers.

As a matter of fact, a number of companies who fell from the battle now only content themselves by being publishers and developers for the remaining three big companies Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.

With that said, renowned video game designer David Jaffe renewed the call for a “one-console” video game industry in the future. He mentioned that he doesn’t believe that such scenario will hamper the competition and therefore will not negatively affect gamers.

Here’s a part of a rather long explanation from David Jaffe:

Sure you miss out on some features that may otherwise be available if another console was there to compete. But this is always the way when one format wins over another and becomes the standard. And for those few features you lose, donÂ’t you make up for it in so many other ways?

Massive content choice, being the main one. And you get MORE competition on the software side – which is, to me, where it counts – because there is MORE competition to be the best on a single system instead of content creators splintering and never ever worrying about competing with two out of the three groups.

In the end, Jaffe mentioned that he is up for being proven wrong and believes that he doesn’t hold the answers to all questions and the solutions to all problems this scenario may cause. How about you guys? What do you think?
