David Karraker: The Wii is an “impulse buy”

Poor piggy - Image 1

David Karraker, spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment of America. In a New York Times report he’s actually been quoted as saying that the “Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else”

On the surface this seems like something that any other thing that a gaming exec would say; after all it follows the “decry the competition, promote our product” pattern. Still, with this much online sentiment that the PS3 is “gathering dust”, and is “too expensive.” Does Sony really need to make brash statements like this?

One would think that by now, they’d have figured out that online pundits will leap on statements of this nature and use it as fuel for more forum flames. If they really believe that the Wii is an impulse buy, they should do their best to make people’s 600 dollar “investments” worth it, instead of downplaying the purchasing decision made by a huge and loyal fan-base.

Sigh. Can’t they just let things bii?
