David Reeves: Euro delay helps PS3 buzz
There are a lot of bones we can pick with his one, but before we contend with those, let’s get to the news part of this post first. According to a post on Games Industry, Sony‘s European President is saying that the delay of the PS3 in Europe was actually beneficial in the long run.
According to Games Industry’s article, David Reeves, Sony’s European President, mentioned the following:
“It’s rather like taking a bottle of soda water and we’ve shaken it so hard over the last six months that when we take the cork off, it’s just going to explode,” he told Reuters.
“I think that’s a better way of looking at it than to say the delay is disappointing. It’s not – it’s really been beneficial for us. We’re going to get it right.”
While the buzz has been growing, it’s not always been good news. For one thing, the announcement of gimped backwards compatibility has tempted many into thinking this is a lesser PS3 for approximately the same price. Worse still, the increasing dearth of PS3 exclusives such as DMC4 has also given a hit to Sony’s reputation as the console maker to beat.
Suffice it to say that, to take his own analogy, when you shake soda water and it explodes, it’s value neutral. If you’re wet with covered in soda water as a result of your own haphazard handling, then that isn’t necessarily a good thing.
