It’s only been a couple of months since the PSP-3000 hit stores, so another new PSP isn’t on the cards yet. That’s what SCEE boss David Reeves told MCV in a recent interview:

No, there are currently no plans for a PSP2. I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it – I think they have their hands full at the moment.

We just launched the PSP-3000 so we are still focused on this generation of the platform.

Aside from spouting the standard Sony denial line, Reeves also conceded that yes, the PSP is in a tight spot in terms of games, acknowledging that software is the handheld’s major weakness. Reeves lays the blame square on the door of developers:

…developers, when it comes to placing their bets, have to choose PS3 and 360, then Wii, then DS, maybe even PS2 before PSP. ItÂ’s the same at our internal studios, where the focus has been on PS3.

Reeves assured PSP faithful that games will come, but they’ll just “take a while longer”. Reminds me of the movie Field of Dreams: “If you build it, they will come.” Well, they better.
