Dead Nation was introduced back in GamesCom 2009 and we still don’t have a release date. Thankfully though, Housemarque has given us a window and we can expect the top-down zombie shooter sometime later this fall.

The game will have the largest number of zombies on-screen, but you could still take refuge in certain areas around the maps to recuperate, purchase supplies, and upgrade your weapons. Weapon upgrading also happens to be a major part of the gameplay, allowing you to raise damage, range, firing rate, reload speed, and ammo capacity, depending on the firearm in question.

You get to use those weapons against different kinds of zombies. There are fast-moving ones that go down easy with melee attacks, while there are big, slower types that can take a lot of punishment. Some zombies still retain the characteristics they had in life, so expect to see baseball-playing zombies as well as zombie policemen that wildly fire their guns while attacking.

Housemarque based the fast-paced gameplay of Dead Nation on their previous title, Super Stardust HD, so you’d know better than to stand still while the zombies begin to swarm (remember: largest number of zombies on-screen). It will help to have a partner – local multiplayer is a definite yes, but there’s no word on online.

Pricing will be announced closer to release day, so we’ll fill you in once that piece of info comes along.
