Defender coming a bit late to XBLA
Amidst all the craze of the Japan PS3 launch, it is still business as usual for Microsoft as they are continuing with their usual Xbox Live Arcade activities by following their Wednesday release schedule.
This week, they are putting Midway’s timeless arcade classic, Defender. But they won’t be meeting the normal 8 a.m. GMT release time as the guys over at Xbox Live mentioned that Defender is just finishing up in the certification department, whatever that means.
If you were a very-sheltered child that wasn’t allowed to go out and have some good, clean arcade fun during the 1980s or you weren’t born yet at that time, then you may not have an idea what we’re trying to convey here.
To refresh your memory, the arcade game Defender takes place in our future galaxy, heavily-infested with alien forces. They attack in countless swarms and destroy any planet on their path, and those who survive the alien invasions are “harvested” and forced to be slaves to the alien invaders. Mean, mean extraterrestrials. You are now tasked to protect the humans and destroying invading aliens.
The Xbox Live version will be blessed with classic and enhanced modes, full Xbox Live support, and Multiplayer mania. What a way to relive a classic, right?
