Dell Launches Battery Recall Site
As we mentioned yesterday, Dell has issued a recall for a large number of its recently sold laptop batteries including, Latitude, Inspiron, Precision and XPS models. Dell was quick to get a website online designed to ease customers through the recall process.
The new site details the steps customers need to follow to discover whether or not the laptop they own is affected by the recall, and most importantly, how to navigate through the process of getting a new battery from Dell.
Once a customer determines that they are affected by the recall, they are linked to a processing form that apparently initiates the process of obtaining a new battery. On the site the company reminds customers that they should not use their laptop batteries until they receive a replacement from Dell.
They suggest using A/C power in the meantime, placing many Dell users in a situation that will severely limit how and where they use their machines until the battery is replaced. The company should get credit for at least attempting to be proactive about the situation.
However, as a Dell Inspiron owner who is affected by the recall, I am disappointed that the Dell recall site is not more explicit about whether or not using your battery prior to obtaining a new one will void your authorization to take part in the recall.
