In recent news, Lexicon Entertainment has announced its new game for the Nintendo DS: The Dream of Neko. According to Lexicon, it’s a “cartoon styled puzzle game” which is set in a world where magic exists.

The game is essentially about a kitten named Neko who is fascinated by humans. Neko has become envious because Humans in her opinion can eat anything they want and move around in their weird mechanical machines. One day, while he was taking a nap in the forest after hunting, a transformation occurred and Neko became human.

Neko will have to traverse through 6 worlds (forest, caves, desert, oasis, lake, and wonderland) to reclaim his previous appearance. Unfortunately, the natives of these worlds aren’t so friendly, so he will have to use items and his magical powers to defeat them. The powers he can employ are varied, with some being nifty (morphing into different characters), dangerous (Fireballs), and even a bit silly (funny mimics?!?). As he advances, he can also collect coins to buy much needed supplies on his journey to the big boss at the end of each stage.

The game boasts of an “innovative physics engine” for handling gravity and collision detection. In addition, the developers have boosted the game’s replay value by adding a ranking at the end of every level which shows how much you’ve really accomplished (you can only get a 100% completion rate if you collect all the coins). In terms of graphics, they have promised “stunning visual effects” when Neko uses his powers as well as “lush and highly detailed settings” in the background.

The Dream of Neko is set to be released in Q3 of this year for £ 14.99 (about US$ 30) in Europe. Be sure to check the screenshots of the game to see if it’s your cup of tea.
