Detroit Free Press lists Wii pros and cons

WiiThe Wii hype is buzzing in the air as its release is drawing near. Of course, we can’t help but get caught in the flurry of excitement. But before you go on a camp-out frenzy and wait in line, better check out Detroit Free Press writer Heather Newman’s short Wii pros and cons checklist. After all, you want to be informed, don’t you?

Pros:

  • While the PS3’s priced at US$ 499, and the Xbox 360’s for US$ 299, this baby’s retailing for US$ 250 (unless you’re getting it at eBay, but that’s another story), so it’s the cheapest among the next gen trio.
  • It has a Virtual Console for backwards compatibility, online capabilities, and a fun Mii channel.
  • The controller screams innovation with its motion-sensing capabilities and user-friendly design.
  • It’s the smallest in the bunch, “barely the size of a hardcover book”.

The rabbid wants one tooCons:

  • It lags a bit behind, graphics-wise. While its counterparts vie for supremacy in terms of power, the Wii’s maximum output is only 480p.
  • It doesn’t have a hard drive, although it has internal flash memory.
  • “While the launch lineup for the Wii features a good variety of games, the current list of Wii-exclusive titles is slim compared to other consoles. Nintendo’s games are excellent, but the overall choices Wii owners have will be more limited.”
